A golf simulator is five separate products sold in every possible combination, and the one that decides whether the build works is the room it goes in.

Most simulator projects go wrong in the same order: the sensor gets researched for weeks, the room gets measured afterwards, and the unit goes back because the garage was four feet short. The sensor is the part everyone researches and it is frequently not the largest line item once the room is finished. A mid-range screen and enclosure together commonly cost as much as the sensor sitting in front of them, which is the detail that catches first-time buyers.

How much room it actually needs
This is the section to read twice, because it is the one that cannot be fixed after the fact.
TrackMan's guidance for a garage build recommends roughly 9 to 10 feet of ceiling height, 10 to 15 feet of width and 15 to 20 feet of depth for a comfortable bay. The two sets differ, and the difference is worth understanding rather than averaging away. The lower figures describe what fits. Screen, enclosure and mat
The three parts that take the physical punishment, and the three most often under-specified.
An impact screen is engineered fabric, not a bedsheet, and it is tensioned rather than hung loose. A screen with no tension at the bottom edge flexes unpredictably and returns balls harder than a properly mounted one, which is a safety issue rather than a performance one. What it costs, honestly
The range is enormous and any single figure is misleading, so it is more useful to understand the shape of the spend than to quote a total.
At the low end, a club-reading unit hitting into a net with no screen or enclosure is a few hundred pounds and needs almost no room. What a simulator is genuinely good for
Worth being clear about, because the marketing promises more than the hardware delivers.
