Affiliate disclosure

Some links here earn us money. Here is exactly which ones, and what it does and does not change.

The short version

Learn Golf is free to read and has no advertising, no signup wall and nothing to buy from us. It is funded by affiliate commission: when you follow certain links to a retailer and buy something, we receive a small share of the sale. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct.

Commission never decides what we recommend, and it never decides the running order. Products appear in the order that makes sense for the reader the page was written for. Plenty of things we recommend earn us nothing at all, including buying used and buying nothing.

Which links earn us money

Only retailer links on our gear pages, and not all of those. Three kinds of link appear on this site and they are not the same thing:

  • Retailer links that pay commission. These carry a rel="sponsored" attribute, which is the standard machine-readable marker for a link with a financial relationship behind it.
  • Source and citation links. Links to the USGA, TrackMan, Shot Scope and similar. These earn us nothing and exist so you can check our working.
  • Internal links. Links to our own guides. These earn us nothing directly and are there because the answer continues on another page.

Every page carrying commercial links shows a disclosure line above the fold, before you have read a word of the recommendation. That placement is deliberate. A disclosure buried at the foot of the page after you have already decided is a disclosure in name only.

Other commercial relationships

Affiliate commission is not the only way a website can have a financial interest in what it recommends, so it is worth being specific about the rest.

Some retailers named on this site have a business relationship with the people who run it that goes beyond affiliate commission. Where that is the case we say so on the page the recommendation appears on, in the text, next to the recommendation. We are not going to bury it here and treat that as covered.

Nobody pays us for a favourable write-up, and no brand sees a page before it publishes. If that ever changes, this page changes with it and the page in question says so.

What we do not do

  • We do not claim to have tested gear we have not tested. Our gear pages are buying guides and every one says so at the foot of the page. The editorial policy sets out what they are actually built from.
  • We do not publish scores out of ten or star ratings, which are the easiest thing to quietly weight toward whatever pays best.
  • We do not recommend something we would not recommend to a friend who was buying with their own money.

Programmes we take part in

We participate in affiliate programmes run by golf retailers and by the Amazon Associates programme, which is an affiliate scheme designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to Amazon and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Prices and availability on this site are indicative and are checked periodically rather than continuously. The retailer’s own page is the only current price. Nothing here is a purchase contract, and any transaction is between you and the retailer.

Questions

If something on this page is unclear, or you think a disclosure is missing somewhere it should be, tell us. That is a correction like any other and it gets fixed.
