Every golf ball chart on the internet maps swing speed onto compression, and the companies that build golf balls do not agree that the mapping holds. That disagreement is worth understanding before you spend anything, because it decides whether a soft ball is a real answer to a slow swing or a comfortable story sold alongside one.

What "slow" actually means, and how to find out
Slow is a relative word that gets used carelessly. The figure that matters is driver clubhead speed, measured at the club rather than estimated from how the shot felt.

Snell Golf are one of the few makers who publish bands, and they recommend 30 to 60 compression below 85 mph, 60 to 90 between 85 and 105, and 90 or above beyond that. They are a manufacturer with a ball designer's background, so that is a considered position rather than a slogan. They also put the working range of the industry scales at roughly 30 to 120, and state plainly that a compression number is relative to the test method rather than a universal physical constant.

Bridgestone e12 HiLaunch: the one fitted on flight
The Bridgestone e12 HiLaunch is part of a three ball family that Bridgestone fit on launch conditions rather than on clubhead speed. This one is the high launch member, described as using a low compression soft core to raise initial launch and increase carry.
That framing is the reason it leads this page. A slower swing is not short of firmness options, it is short of ball speed and therefore short of the height needed to carry the ball a useful distance. Launch is the variable that actually addresses that, and compression is at best an indirect route to it.

TaylorMade SpeedSoft: soft, and willing to say how soft
The TaylorMade SpeedSoft is a two-piece ionomer ball built around what TaylorMade call PWRCORE, a larger core that they publish as being under 50 compression. It carries a 322 extended flight dimple pattern and sits at the cheap end of TaylorMade's range.
TaylorMade are one of only two mainstream makers who still publish compression across their whole lineup, and that alone makes them worth taking seriously on this page. A precise figure for the finished SpeedSoft is quoted widely across review sites, it did not come from TaylorMade, and it does not appear here.

Here is what makes it the most interesting ball here. Snell publish speed bands recommending 30 to 60 compression below 85 mph. They then build a ball at 80 to 85 and describe it as being for low to mid swing speed players. Those two positions do not line up, they are twenty compression points apart, and Snell are not being careless. How much do you actually compress a golf ball?
This is the physics the whole category rests on, and it is not as one-sided as the charts suggest.
Compression is a laboratory measurement: squeeze a ball between two plates with a known force and record how far it flattens. At impact the same thing happens far faster and far harder. Even a clubhead moving at 70 mph deforms a ball substantially against the face, flattening it visibly before it springs back and leaves.
That single fact is the strongest argument against the swing speed rule. The idea behind the rule is that a slow swing cannot fully compress a firm ball and therefore loses energy. The idea behind the counter-argument is that every golfer compresses the ball a great deal, that the cover and outer layers do most of the work that produces spin, and that the difference between a 40 and an 80 compression ball at 75 mph is far smaller than a chart implies.
The rules are silent on it too, which is telling. The R&A's Rules of Equipment limit weight to 1.620 ounces, diameter to no less than 1.680 inches, initial velocity, total distance and symmetry. A maker can build at 35 compression or 100 and both conform. The specification drifted out of the published sheet without anybody breaking a rule, because it was never regulated in the first place.

What a slow swing actually needs
Not softness. Height, and enough spin to hold it.
Read that second sentence carefully, because it is the part that matters at low speed. Spin generates the lift that keeps a ball airborne, and a slower ball needs proportionally more of it to stay up. A golfer at 80 mph chasing a tour driver spin number is optimising toward a flight their speed cannot support, and the result is a drive that falls out of the sky twenty yards early.
That is why launch is the right target and firmness is the wrong one. Get the ball up, keep enough spin to hold it there, and the carry follows. What spin rate actually means covers where your own numbers should sit at your speed.
What a low compression ball genuinely buys you
Three things, in descending order of how much they matter.
Feel is first and it is the honest one. A lower compression ball deforms more at putter speeds and does feel softer off the face. If you prefer that, it is a perfectly good reason to buy one, and it needs no physics to justify it.
Ball speed at the margins is second. Core and mantle design contribute alongside firmness, and a very firm ball at a very low speed can leave a small amount on the table. Small is the operative word, and it is nothing like the yardage differences the charts imply.
Confidence is third and should not be dismissed. A golfer who believes the ball suits them swings more freely, and a free swing is worth measurably more than any specification on this page. That is not a performance claim about the ball, it is a performance claim about the golfer.
